[ About Me ]
I’m Gillian and I’m currently pursuing a Master’s in Social Work at Columbia University. Prior to graduate school, I gained clinical experience as a substance abuse counselor to middle and high schoolers in Honolulu, Hawai’i. It was through my time in adolescent counseling that I felt drawn to pursue a career in social work. During my first year in the program, I completed an internship providing mental health counseling to first through eighth grade students as well as family therapy services in the Lower East Side.
In my four years of mental health counseling, I learned early on that executive functioning serves as a pillar to life satisfaction and overall wellbeing. Through my education in social work and experience in the field of mental health, my philosophy lies in acknowledging the multidimensionality of a person and its impact on their executive functioning. I believe that through an integrated approach, strengthening one’s executive functioning then becomes internally motivated and sustainable. Having served a population of different ethnicities, cultures, economic backgrounds, and belief systems, one consistent truth is that we all want to be well. I believe that working towards mastering one’s executive functioning is the first step to achieving such.
